Captain Gary has been a licensed charter boat captain and guide for 8 years.  He grew up fishing Lake Erie with his dad and then on his own for 30+ years. He lives very close to his boat dock so if he's not working a charter he's usually on the lake fun fishing.  That helps him keep up with daily movements of the fish. He also has a lot of great contacts with other guides and friends that are avid Lake Erie fishermen who share fishing information so he will always be prepared with the latest information on where the fish are biting.

Enjoying your day on the water is important to Captain Gary and he will do his best to ensure you and your guests have a fun day.

OUR BOAT

Our boat is a 26' 2004, Pacific, powered by a new four stroke 250 Honda out board. This boat is made near Seatle Washington, it is a comercial grade boat for use in all types of comercial applications including life/rescue, police work, comercial fishing, and chartering. This boat has lots of fishing room, and a standup pilot house style cabin that can seat four customers comfortably. It has some of the best electronics on board, color fishfinder, color chart plotter by Raymarine, and a new marine radio with all the modern functions. Because of room constraints customers will have to use a portapotty.

All fishing equipment is newer and of good quality, and kept in good working order. The boats semi-deep V-hull design takes Lake Erie's famous rough water conditions very well.

The boat has all required Coast Guard equipment onboard and is fully insured for comercial use. For added safety the boat is inspected every season.

REPORT FROM BP COMPANY PUBLICATION

A BP TOLEDO FISH TALE

It was an A+ day on Lake Erie for four of our A zone employees. Ron Iler “FCC-1 operator”, Tom Nafziger “Unsat operator”, Gary Mercer and Mark Miller “A-zone Extra Boards” they got together and hired Captain Gary Leach also an FCC-1 operator for a day of walleye fishing on Lake Erie. The day was perfect, the sky was overcast and there was a brisk south west wind which gave the lake a 2 to 3 foot chop which is ideal for drift fishing for walleye.

The boat left the dock which is located on Cooley canal at about 7:30 pm. It was a comfortable ride on Captain Gary’s new 26 foot Pacific fishing boat out to the area he wanted to try for walleye. Once the Captain got to the spot he started scanning the area for fish on his fish finder. Finally some fish were located and the captain set the boat up for a drift. Fishing rods were handed out to the guys that didn’t have their own and each guy selected a lure from the captain’s abundant supply, two guys ended up using weapons with copper colored blades and two guys used weight forward sure shad lures in chartreuse.
The captain also set out four bottom bouncer rigs spread out in rod holders around the boat. Two guys got keeper size walleye right off the bat but then it slowed down. By the end of the first drift the cooler had just four walleyes in it. They were also catching some white perch and shepshead and quite a few undersize walleye which have to be 15 inches to be legal in Ohio. On the next drift the captain decided to go up a little further on the drift because they caught fish right away on the first drift. He also decided to put out a drift sock to slow down the boats drift speed, this helps to keep the boat over the fish longer. What an improvement on that drift the guys boxed 9 more keepers and the following drift produced 11 more and one more drift gave up the rest for their limit of 30 nice walleye.

After the short ride back to the dock the guys cleaned their own fish at a table set up just for
cleaning fish. All the guys really enjoyed the day of fishing on Lake Erie and couldn’t wait to get home with all of that good tasting walleye.

By the way I don’t know if it’s true or not but I heard a nasty rumor that the Extra board guys beat out the experienced operators.

Good fishing
